Lord Howe Island is 550 km east of Port Macquarie, and is part of the state of New South Wales (NSW). It is surrounded by Marine Parks managed by the NWS and Australian Governments.
Born from a volcanic eruption some seven million years ago, it has the southern-most coral reef in the world. Lord Howe Island is 11 km (c.7 miles) long and barely 2 km (1.25 miles) at its widest point.
