City of Timmins, Canada
Timmins is a city in north east Ontario, Canada on the Mattagami River. Shania Twain, a native of Timmins, played a concert at Hollinger Park on July 1, 1999. An estimated 22,000 people attended the outdoor concert. The Shania Twain Centre was then opened on June 30, 2001, as a local tourist attraction. Since its opening, the Centre has received memorabilia, awards and many other personal items from Shania Twain.
Some other main tourist attractions within the city include Timmins Underground Gold Mine Tour, The Timmins Museum and National Exhibition Centre, Cedar Meadows Wilderness Tours, Kamiskotia Snow Resort, Porcupine Ski Runners Cross-Country Trails and Chalet, Hollinger Golf Club the McIntyre Community Building and the Timmins Snowmobile Club. Snowmobiling impacts the Timmins economy as tourists from all over North America travel north to explore area trails.
