London Southend Airport is a well established facility serving business and leisure passengers flying within the UK, Europe and beyond.
A dedicated new airport railway station has been completed - this will provide up to 8 train services an hour, direct to Stratford - the site of the 2012 Olympics - and on to Liverpool Street in the heart of the City of London. At 53 minutes to Central London, the route will carry passengers quickly and cost effectively into the centre of London.
A new control tower went operational in March 2011, a new passenger terminal opened to the public in February 2012 and the existing runway (1,605m x 37m) has been extended by 300m (plus an 89m starter strip) - easily capable of handling popular 150-200 seat, short and medium haul aircraft such as the Airbus A319 and Boeing 737. Commercial operations are projected to serve 2 million passengers per annum by 2020.
As one of the first new operators to take advantage of the new facilities under development at London Southend, Aer Arran Regional has commenced twice daily scheduled flights between London and Ireland, to both Waterford and Galway in Spring 2011.
Very close to mainland Europe, and outside of congested London airspace, Southend is free from overcrowding both on the ground and in the air, yet is just a short hop into the heart of the Capital.
