Soho Square, W1

Soho Sq., London W1

Soho Square was laid out in 1681, this shady square was originally known as King's Square, after Charles II.  A statue of the king can be seen in the centre of the square.

Soon after it was laid out the square, just north of Oxford Street, became the most fashionable address in London but by the late-18th century its popularity had decreased.

Today, as well as the office buildings, Soho Square has London's one remaining French Protestant church and St Patrick's Catholic church.

The unusual mock Tudor building at the centre of the square is a Victorian garden shed.

Soho Square is a popular picnic spot for office workers in good weather, and provides a quiet area for shoppers to recover.
