Which sign was Saturn in when you were born?

'The Hard Taskmaster'comes back to it only a few times in a lifetime

Saturn needs approximately 29.5 years for a full journey round the Sun. Coming back to where it started is at a snail's pace compared to Mercury, with its 88 days. No wonder that such a belated arrival is not at the forefront of anyone's mind.

Note: after adding your birthdate, when the tool is active, "snap to sign" appears and when it's on, the indicator will only point to a specific constellation. With "snap to sign" in the off position the indicator will be moving forwards and backwards, as Saturn turns retrograde and then direct again.

Why are Saturn's returns the proper big birthdays

Of all the planets moving through the fixed constellations, Saturn really takes its time. Maybe that's why it has been associated with Time, as concept and symbol.

Its attributes are not so fun either: discipline, seriousness, reflection, resilience. When it turns up, it may not look like something to celebrate, as it happens with the new solar year, otherwise known as the annual birthday. No jubilations, maybe, but definitely a momentous event.

Saturn's return, first time round

Its lack of nimbleness makes Saturn signal its arrival the way tectonic plates move, with slight vibrations at first. Life starts drilling for answers to some heavy questions. Am I going in the right direction? Is this what I really want? Am I true to myself and those niggling feelings that get amplified by this or that event?

By one's 30th birthday, there's been a lot of inner commotion, brought on by the Hard Taskmaster, as Saturn has been often called. Youth is an advantage at this first stern embrace. Awareness helps too, or being conscious of the next Saturnian cycle, lasting the following three decades. This is the best time to learn and apply a strategic vision, ready and ripe to be examined around the age 57-60.

Saturn's second return, never too late

Reaching the threshold of the second full cycle makes Saturn a more exacting force. There is enough personal history accumulated since birth to measure personal life. Looking back at choice of strategies and their results can be uplifting or depressing, never neutral. That's where maturity, better equipped to deal with hard knocks, may be used adroitly. Saturn's attributes, perceived as rather grim, if not fearsome, at its first return, reveal themselves as gifts this time round.

Saturn's third return or using gifts wisely

Old age can be pretty miserable if it forgets about Saturn's demands: discipline, resilience, strategic goals. At 60, looking forward to a third encounter with the planet of Time can become a journey of maximum wisdom acquired through Saturn's rebukes. Has impatience ever distorted the precise perception of how things should occur? Is the lesson in accountability learnt and applied diligently?

Whatever has been left unfinished or finished in a disorderly way needs to be addressed sooner rather than later. Saturn awaits and then rewards. As a ruler of two constellations, Capricorn and Aquarius, the Taskmaster likes order and vision. For short, he is the Strategist.
