Indiana , meaning the "Land of the Indians," is a state of the United States of America. Indiana is bordered by Lake Michigan and the state of Michigan (N), Ohio (E), Kentucky, across the Ohio River (S), and Illinois (W).

Indiana's state capital is Indianapolis . The U.S. postal abbreviation for the state is IN.

A resident of Indiana is called a Hoosier (which is also the name used for a student of Indiana University, Bloomington).

Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore, with a 4.8km (3 mile) frontage on Lake Michigan, is noted for its beautiful shifting sand dunes. Formerly a state park, the area was made a National Lakeshore in 1966.

The Indianapolis Motor Speedway is the site of the famous 500 mile (800 km) auto race, held annually.
